The Last Refuge of a Scoundrel

Is not necessarily prayer — that’s when you know you’re screwed. It is often semantics — that’s when you’re still arguing over whether you are actually screwed or not.

Civil war or no civil war? What is a civil war? Is Iraq in a civil war? Is the term even subjective? Will arguing over semantics reduce the number of people that are dying or the number that have died so far? It’s terrifyingly hilarious how politicians are arguing over how to qualitatively describe a situation that won’t change one iota once they’ve decided what to properly call it.

A turd is a turd is a turd, and like Michael Stipe famously said, there’s no way to polish it.
